Number of faults a system can withstand without repairs

چکیده
We consider the following scheduling problem. A system is composed of n processors drawn from a pool of N. The processors can become faulty while in operation and faulty processors never recover. A report is issued whenever a fault occurs. This report states only the existence of a fault, but does not indicate its location. Based on this report, the scheduler can reconngure the system and choose another set of n processors. The system operates satisfactorily as long as at most f of the n selected processors are faulty. We exhibit a scheduling strategy allowing the system to operate satisfactorily until approximately (N=n)f faults are reported in the worst case. Our precise bound is tight.

Embedded Memory Test Strategies and Repair
The demand of self-testing proportionally increases with memory size in System on Chip (SoC). SoC architecture normally occupies the majority of its area by memories. Due to increase in density of embedded memories, there is a need of self-testing mechanism in SoC design. Therefore, this research study focuses on this problem and introduces a smooth solution for self-testing. In the proposed m...
متن کاملMultitolerance in Distributed Reset
A reset of a distributed system is safe if it does not complete “preAbstract-1 maturely,” i.e., without having reset some process in the system. Safe resets are possible in the presence of certain faults, such as process failstops and repairs, but are not always possible in the presence of more general faults, such as arbitrary transients. In this paper, we design a bounded-memory distributed-r...
متن کاملSensor Fault Detection for a class of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems Using Sliding Mode Observers
This paper deals with the issues of sensor fault detection for a class of Lipschitz uncertain nonlinear system. By definition coordinate transformation matrix for system states and output system, at first the original system divided into two subsystems. the first subsystem includes uncertainties but without any sensor faults and the second subsystem has sensor faults but is free of uncertaintie...
متن کاملAutomatic Failure Analysis using Extended Safecharts
With rapid development in science and technology, we now see the ubiquitous use of different types of safety-critical systems in our daily lives such as in avionics, consumer electronics, and medical systems. In such systems, unintentional design faults might result in injury or even death to human beings. To avoid such mishaps, we need to verify safety-critical systems thoroughly and formal ve...

With the rapid progress in science and technology, we find ubiquitous use of safety-critical systems in avionics, consumer electronics, and medical instruments. In such systems, unintentional design faults might result in injury or even death to human beings. To avoid such mishaps, we need to verify safetycritical systems thoroughly, where formal verification techniques such as model checking p...
